What Is Purepass?
PurePass is a white, bromine-free flame-retardant (FR) designed for upholstery fabric applications. Developed specifically to achieve UK domestic FR standard BS5852 (Source 0 & 1) whilst improving on the handle, breathability and usability associated with traditional FR finishings.
Unlike conventional FR systems that rely on halogen-based additives like Brominated, PurePass utilises a mineral-based formulation that ensures compliance, safety, and stability from both a health and environmental perspective. Importantly, PurePass offers a future-proof solution, as traditional brominated FR systems, under scrutiny for ecological and human health impacts, are to be banned and phased out in the very near future.

Our R&D process focuses not only on flame performance but also on durability, aesthetic finish, and long-term stability. Multiple prototypes are created, tested, and refined before final approval, ensuring that PurePass performs reliably across a wide variety of construction and composition.
Our finishing facility in China has been a key part of this development process. The Mobus China team has extensive coating experience and advanced technical equipment that mirrors our UK operations. They conduct parallel trials and quality verification to ensure we achieve identical performance standards worldwide. With full coating capability, our China facilities can apply FR finishes locally and ship directly to manufacturing sites across Asia, supporting UK and European brands producing overseas with the same precision and quality expected in the UK.

Choosing the Right FR for Each Fabric
At Mobus, every fabric is designed, tested and launched with specific FR solutions. This is based on its composition, end use, and manufacturing needs. However, over the last 5 years, we have developed every fabric with the expectation that it will require halogen-free FR treatment.

PurePass Finishes
To suit different applications and manufacturing processes, PurePass is available in several forms:
- Direct Coating
A white, bromite-free compound is applied directly to the back of the fabric.
- PurePass Lamination
A viscose bonding with white bromine-free coating laminated to the reverse.
- PurePass+
A viscose laminated bonding, post-coated with a white, bromine-free finish, designed for technical applications and fabrics requiring Crib 5 performance.
All finishes are engineered for durability, comfort, and ease of handling, supporting manufacturers in the residential, contract, and hospitality sectors.
